New South Mountain Campus Opening
2010-2011 School Year serving Grades K-2
Our Kindergarten Classes have been located at the original YMCA in the South Mountain neighborhood since January, located at 449 East Southern Avenue. We have made arrangements with the YMCA to use the entire building for our Summer Programs and for our Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Classes for the upcoming School Year. This expansion will be convenient for our South Mountain families and transportation will be provided daily from the Main Campus. The facility has large classrooms, fenced playgrounds and is located next to El Reposo Park with a Baseball Field, Playground and Community Center including an indoor Basketball Court.
Third through Eight Grade will remain at the Main Campus at 1313 N. 2nd St. with transportation provided daily from the South Mountain Campus. This will give us plenty of room to serve two classes of Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade and one class each of Sixth, Seventh and Eighth.
The two Fifth Grade teachers will specialize, one in Language Arts (Reading, Writing & Social Studies) and the other in Math and Science. Students will change classes but only once or twice.
Sixth, Seventh and Eighth graders will have three specialized teachers and longer classes. They will have classes in ALL Subject Areas EVERY DAY: 1.5 hours of Language Arts (Reading & Writing), 1.5 hours of Math and Science, 1.5 hours of Social Studies, Character Development and Current Events and 1.5 hours of Physical Development/ Health. Being on a Sport Team will be mandatory at least one Term of the School Year. Homework will be given everyday and Tutoring will be available Before and After School.
Champion Summer Programs
Summer School will be held June 7-24, and July 6-22 Mon-Thurs from 9am-3pm (open at 8am for drop off) at the new South Mountain Campus. Studies show that a very important factor in a child’s success in school is getting extra schooling in the long break of summer months. We have a strong academic and athletic program planned and space is limited. There is a fee of $40 per week or $120 per session. We plan to do fundraising to provide scholarships. With your help, we can include everybody.
