Stingers Unveil 3rd Championship Banner

Stingers Unveil 3rd Championship Banner at Ceremony

PHOENIX, AZ (May 24th, 2010) – The buzz among the courtyard and hallways on Monday morning was undeniable at the main campus of Champion Schools.  One reason was anxiousness to begin the last Monday of the school year.  The better explanation was an unfamiliar black banner posted on the side of the building.  Athletic Director, Junior Taylor, had the honor of unveiling the Stingers’ 3rd championship banner at the Spring Season Athletic Awards Ceremony.

Athletes represented from the Varsity Softball, Soccer and Track and Field Teams were each recognized for their achievements.  The first year teams comprised of mostly first year student-athletes exceeded expectations and capped off a 2009-2010 school year that saw the Stinger Athletics program grow to enjoy the highest level of success in its brief history.

“This is what we all strive for,” Taylor proclaimed as he looked up at the black and gold, 2010 Invitational Champions banner.  Taylor hopes the newest banner in Champion Schools’ courtyard will serve as a source of motivation and reminder for all students to realize that they have the same opportunity to join a team and become Champions.

Summer sport clinics beginning in two weeks will set the stage for a new school year where Taylor expects 100% student participation in the Stinger Athletics program.

For more information or volunteer opportunity, Call (602) 252-7727 or (602) 621-1842 or email the Athletic Director, Junior Taylor, at Jtaylor@ChampionSchools.org.

Champions Take Inaugural Crown

On Friday, April 30th, the Champion Schools’ Stingers won the Inaugural Champion Schools Track Invitational.  The Invitational, held at the Phoenix College Track and Field saw teams from the IYAC league compete for the title including, Champion, Bethel, Desert Heights, Estrella, Heritage and Westland.

In a very exciting meet, friends and family were treated to several outstanding performances and a close, surprising finish.  Desert Heights finished with 146 points, good enough for third by a large margin.  The awards podium was dominated by runners from Champion and Estrella so when the final scores were being announced, the entire crowd awaited eagerly to hear the runner up, “Estrella…with 222 points.”  The Champion representation erupted over the PA announcer who declared Champion the winners with a definitive 278 points.

The Stingers were led by remarkable individual performances by Jessica Hodge-Green ’16 and Daniel Wright ’14 but the point total was supplemented by strong performances from all Stingers, top to bottom.  Visit the Champion Schools homepage to view a slideshow of photos from the event.
