3rd Grade Science: Bread Mold!

-Purpose-

To grow a type of fungus called bread mold

-Materials-

Ziploc bag, Eyedropper, Bread, Water

-Procedure-

Place the bread in the plastic bag
Put 10 drops of water inside the bag
Close the bag
Keep the bag in a dark, warm place for 3 to 5 days
Observe the bread through the plastic
Discard the bag and its contents after your observation.

Starting on Wednesday, April 27^th, Ms.Johnson’s 3^rd grade class will conduct

a three day experiment to learn about how mold forms on bread.

They will present their findings at the Science Fair ’11.

Three Weeks Left Before The Science Fair

Dear Students and Parents,

It is time for the Science Fair! This is a great opportunity for students to get involved in Science and conduct experiments that really interest one another. Each student will be required to complete a project. Our Science Fair will be held on Friday, May 6^th, 2011.

For the Science Fair, students are required to do a test, survey or experiment. This means that they will be conducting an experiment instead of only doing research. While research is a part of the project, it is not the entire project. Remember students need to be testing a variable and not just remaking a project with a known outcome. It is strongly encouraged that students pick a topic that they are interested in as they will be working on this for the next month. All projects need to be approved by the Science Teacher, Mr. Gus. Projects involving humans, animals or hazardous chemicals will need additional approval.
